Hammer-wielding man threatens Walgreens employee, robs West Loop store

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Chicago police are investigating an armed robbery that involved a hammer-wielding suspect in Greektown Monday night.

It happened shortly before 9:45 p.m. at the Walgreens on South Halsted Street near Monroe Street, police said.

Officials said a man entered the store with a steel hammer and threatened to attack an employee before taking items off of a shelf and fleeing.

No one was hurt, and no one was in custody. Area Three detectives are investigating.

Three other businesses in Chicago were targeted by armed robbers between Monday night and Tuesday morning. No one appeared to be seriously injured in the attacks, and police said suspects fled the scene in each incident.
