Hampshire man charged in fatal shooting of 17-year-old inside home

HAMPSHIRE, Ill. (WBBM Newsradio) – A 20-year-old man is facing charges after a 17-year-old boy was fatally shot inside a Hampshire home late Saturday night.

Officers responded around 11:30 p.m. to a residence in the 100 block of High Street for reports of a shooting, according to Hampshire police. They found the teen with a gunshot wound, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.


The Daily Herald reports the victim has been identified as 17-year-old Deegan Kirschke, a wrestler at Hampshire High School.

Following an investigation, police arrested Keyshaun Davis, 20, of Hampshire. He is charged with involuntary manslaughter, reckless discharge of a firearm, endangering the life or health of a child, and possession of a firearm and ammunition without a Firearm Owner's Identification card.

Police described the shooting as an isolated incident and said there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The Pingree Grove Police Department, Gilberts Police Department, Kane County Sheriff's Office and the Kane County Major Crimes Task Force assisted in the investigation.
