CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A new partnership between the City Colleges of Chicago and the Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is helping small business owners learn ways to improve their bottom line.
The first group of nine students recently completed the new Intro to Small Business Management class at Harold Washington College.
President Daniel Lopez said the collaboration with the Hispanic Chamber has helped the Loop college identify students who would benefit from the continuing education course.
“These are business owners who have lots of experience or little experience to be able to really take their businesses to the next level,” Lopez said.
Lopez talked with some of the nine students who completed the first Intro to Small Business Management class, which wrapped up last week.
“It was a great place for them to come together and share some of their best practices and learn from one another, [and] to realize that they were not the only ones addressing some of the challenges,” Lopez said.
The continuing education course is not offered for credit. The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce helped select topics for the eight-week class, including marketing, accounting, human resources and other skills small business owners need to master.
The next session begins Feb. 1 and is open to all residents — even those in Indiana.
