(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A reminder about safety inside your favorite haunted houses: Does it have have sprinklers? Are there adequate exits?
Illinois State Fire Marshall Dale Simpson said safety requirements have been in place following tragedies from the 1970s and 1980s. While haunted houses have purposely confusing setups to heighten the attraction, that “also creates problems with being able to find safe exiting,” he said.
All haunted houses in Illinois are required to be inspected prior to operation.
People can report unsafe conditions at haunted houses to the Department of Labor during business hours at 217-782-9347 or after hours at 217-299-5512.
You can also submit a complaint online at the department’s website.
