(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A wallaby named Rupert has been missing in Will County since Tuesday, according to Will County Animal Control.
Rupert stands 2 feet tall and weighs 45 pounds, according to a flyer being circulated by his owner.
"He's a character. He's got emotions. He's got a personality," owner Josie Shockwave told CBS-2.
Shockwave said he escaped from a pen in the back yard of her home on Manhattan-Monee Road.
"I turned my back for a minute, and he was gone," she said. "It's been a totally new experience for us, and he's been a joy and we're horribly missing him."
In a Facebook post, the Crete Police Department said the wallaby might have been seen near Exchange Street and Independence Boulevard on Thursday morning.
Anyone who spots Rupert was instructed to take a photo or video of the wallaby's location. Do not chase or try to catch the wallaby, officials said. Crete Police Department officials said Rupert is scared and will run away.
Instead, residents were encouraged to call Will County Animal Control, the Crete Police Department or the owner — the latter of whom could be reached at 708-710-3148 — with any information on where to find Rupert.
An official with Will County Animal Control told WBBM that this isn't the first time a wallaby has gotten loose.
WBBM reporter Mike Krauser contributed to this report.
