(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Two Des Plaines Police Department staff members were taken to the hospital Friday as a precaution after a suspicious package discovered at the police station prompted an emergency response.

The building was evacuated and two employees who were “in proximity to the package during its discovery” were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening symptoms, according to the release.

Multiple agencies from the area responded. Video from the scene showed personnel in hazmat suits. Traffic was diverted.

Police operations were shifted to Des Plaines City Hall.

An investigation continues.

“Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or packages they may encounter,” city officials said.
