CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO)-- The new acting commissioner of the Chicago Streets and Sanitation Department is already making waves in his new position by delivering much needed good news to city council members.

Cole Stallard said the shortage of 96-gallon garbage carts will be fixed, thanks to $918,000 provided by the Office of Budget and Management, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

"I looked back three years because I know, being a former ward superintendent, the importance of cart delivery. I met with aldermen. The No. 1 thing on everyone's agenda was access to carts," Stollard said as reported by the Chicago Sun- Times.

Several Aldermen also expressed concerns during a city council meeting Tuesday about a backlog of requests for tree-trimming in the wards. Stallard said the department is adding 11 crews to cut down those wait times.

Because the city is losing thousands of ash trees to disease, the administration has allocated $46,000,000 to plant 15,000 new trees for each of the next five years.

Aldermen from various districts celebrated this long-awaited news and praised Stallard. The success of Stallard's first budget hearing makes him almost a shoo-in to be confirmed as the permanent commissioner later this week.
