Health officials in Lake County, Illinois say their COVID-19 vaccination plans are going well, but they urge the public to be smart — and patient.
"I know it's not coming fast enough for some," said Mark Pfister, executive director of the Lake County Health Department. "It's really a great thing that we already have vaccine in this country and that people are already getting vaccinated."
The goal is to vaccinate 80% of the county's estimated 700,000 residents to reach herd immunity. And as officials prepare to administer doses to the next group of recipients, Pfister is urging them to get familiar with the online vaccination portal known as "All Vax."
"One of the most important things that I think we need our public to do is to get an understanding of when they may be eligible for vaccination," he said. "The best way in Lake County is for people to register on that site."
With tens of thousands of residents already vaccinated, Pfister said those waiting in line should stay there but also stay vigilant.
"This is not something that's going to happen quickly. We need people to keep doing what they've been doing."
