CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- There’s a new partnership between Cook County Health and University of Illinois Health to collaborate on pediatric care.

This follows similar collaborations between others hospitals and in this case the partnership between the taxpayer-funded hospitals is intended to reduce emergency room visits.

165 pediatric specialists will work together at both health systems facilities with the goal of improving outcomes for children and shifting more patients away from emergency departments and into outpatient settings.

The two health systems serve a combined 100,000 pediatric patients.

“Together, the two institutions provide care to many of the most vulnerable children in Illinois," said University of Illinois Chicago Chancellor Michael Amiridis in a statement.

"This partnership provides the framework for our world-class doctors to expand their work, collaborate and share their expertise.”
