Hickory Hills woman's Pro-Palestinian lawn sign sparks violent threats

HICKORY HILLS (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Police in Hickory Hills are investigating threats involving a sign in a woman’s front yard reading “Free Palestine.”

Lila Gaber said she has received two letters since putting the sign in her yard. The first came in October.

"THIS IS THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA NOT PALESTINE!!!!!!! REMOVE THE SIGN FROM THE LAWN OR B U R N,” it read.

Now, she told CBS-2 that she received a similar letter this week.
“‘Why do you continue to disrespect the United States of America and the Christian people of Hickory Hills, who built this community with your display of Hamas and evil and killers of innocent women and children,’” she read.

The latest letter read: "FINAL NOTICE."

Gaber said the sign is staying.

“That sign is for the women and children of Palestine…It’s not going down, no matter how much letters I get, I’m never going to take it down, until there’s a ceasefire and two-state solution,” she added.

The Illinois State Police Crime Lab has the letters.

Wednesday, Israeli leaders vowed to press ahead with the two-month-old offensive, launched in response to a bloody cross-border attack by Hamas in October that killed some 1,200 people and saw 240 others taken hostage.

It has devastated much of northern Gaza, killed nearly 20,000 Palestinians, and driven some 1.9 million people — nearly 85% of the population — from their homes. The widespread destruction and heavy civilian death toll has drawn increasing international calls for a cease-fire.
