(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Preparations are underway for Independence Day celebrations in Highland Park, two years after a gunman killed seven people and wounded dozens more at the 2022 Fourth of July parade.
Highland Park City Manager Ghida Neukirch said events are being carefully planned to meet a variety of needs.
On the morning of Independence Day, the city plans to hold a remembrance ceremony for victims of the parade shooting, though the location has yet to be determined.
That will be followed by an afternoon parade that starts near City Hall and ends at Sunset Woods Park, where there will be a festival.
Highland Park won't have a fireworks display. But it is considering a drone light show that would be held sometime later in the summer or early fall.
