CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Wheaton Police and others are looking into the interruption of a virtual middle school class last week.

According to Wheaton Warrenville School District 200 officials, a virtual middle school class was interrupted with “highly inappropriate images and...very inappropriate comments” when a substitute teacher accidentally admitted four to five people, who are not in the class.

The principal of Middle School Virtual Academy, Ian Smith, said the incident happened Friday when four to five people, who are not in the class, were accidentally allowed in by a substitute teacher. About 15 minutes into the class, those people shared "highly inappropriate" images and made "very inappropriate" comments both verbally and in the chat box.

According to Smith, the substitute did not know the students were not supposed to be in the class. The teacher tried to remove the students, but ultimately just ended the session.

Smith said district teachers “are making sure to not admit students into their classes” if they are unfamiliar, the Tribune reported.

“Our IT department has been working to identify who these individuals are,” Smith said. “We will make sure to provide appropriate consequences to everyone who was involved.”

A district spokeswoman told the Tribune that Wheaton police are also investigating.
