(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – The historic Catlow movie theater in Barrington was sold this week.

Tim O’Connor, the man who owned it for 41 years, said it’s bittersweet to let go. On the positive side, the movie venue will have a future, he said.

The 95-year-old theater has been closed since the beginning of the COVID pandemic and needed major repairs. O’Connor said he had plans for an ambitious revival but ran out of money and had to sell.

O'Connor says Catlow enthusiast Brian Long, who owns a jewelry store across the street, purchased the venue.

“He was the perfect fit,” O’Connor said. “He was a contributor during our Kickstarter campaign. He’s just always been very helpful, very kind person.”
