(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – For people in an abusive relationship, the holidays can be extremely difficult and potentially dangerous.
“If you have ever suspected that a friend or family member or somebody that you love is in an abusive relationship, find the time to talk to them. They might just be waiting for somebody to say something,” says Lorri Nagle of The Crisis Center for South Suburbia.
The non-profit organization provides emergency shelter and other free services, such as support groups for individuals and families victimized by domestic violence.
Nagle says holiday stress can escalate violence and controlling behaviors in abusive relationships, and that's why it's important for victims and survivors to be encouraged to get help now.
A hotline is active 24 hours at 708–429–7233.
