Mother suing City, CPD day after prosecutors drop murder charges against her and son

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - One day after Cook County prosecutors dropped all charges against a Chicago woman who was accused of telling her 14-year-old son to kill a man in a South Side restaurant, she announced Tuesday that she is suing the City and the police officers involved.

35-year-old Carlishia Hood broke down as she sat with her attorneys in the offices of the Bronzeville Law Group after making a brief statement.

"What happened to me was totally unnecessary. Never in a million years would I have imagined being brutally attacked, beaten and then arrested," Hood said.

Attorney Brandon Brown described the contents of the lawsuit.

"The complaint contains counts of malicious prosecution, false arrest, and intentional infliction of emotional distress," Brown said.

Carlishia Hood was arrested three days after the incident, during which Jerome Brown was shot to death by her son.

He and Hood exchanged words and he's seen on video punching her in the head before her son intervened.

Jerome Brown, the suit notes, was a convicted felon with multiple arrests for domestic battery.
