How to properly dispose of Christmas trees, trash after the holidays

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Christmas is over. Now it's time to clean up and be "green."

Karen Coley is CEO of SBC Waste Solutions, which operates in several suburbs including Bloomingdale and Winfield.

She said when you're taking out your post-Christmas trash make it easier on your waste hauler and the planet.

"Like one big box and you can break down the smaller boxes so that it is just the carpet clean cardboard and it makes it really easy to recycle."

Coley also said boxes that have been broken down should be stored nicely, so they can go between recycling cans on hauling day.

"That can be very easily taken and...cardboard is worth money. Again, we're saving trees when we can recycle that."

SBC can also recycle fake Christmas trees for communities that they service and are contracted with as well as Christmas lights, and batteries.
Lights and batteries can be dropped off at local drop off centers.
