BOLINGBROOK, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — More than one week after McDonald’s opened its first CosMc’s location in Bolingbrook, the fast food company’s spin-off location still has customers braving hour-plus-long waits just to get a taste.

McDonald’s revealed its plans to open 10 CosMc’s locations by the end of 2024 earlier this year. The menu includes new blended beverages and cold coffees, as well as a few creative takes on McDonald’s classics, such as their savory, bite-sized hash brown.

Since it opened, people have driven from over an hour away and have sat in line — even while on the clock for their jobs — so they could be among the first to try this new concept.

As it turns out, it wasn’t so easy to even get an order placed at CosMc’s. The line wound around a portion of the Maple Park Place shopping center's parking lot, and by mid-afternoon that line contained about50 cars.

One couple in line said they came by during the first weekend it was open at about 5 p.m., three hours before the restaurant closed, but they were turned away by Bolingbrook police officers who’d been instructed by the restaurant to close the line.

Officers on crowd control duty said the restaurant estimates they serve about 30 cars each hour. Management currently calculates how many more cars they can serve as they approach the end of the day and will ask officers to cut off the line accordingly, sometimes hours in advance.

That’s why officers said the best advice was to show up very early. Over the weekend, officers were telling people to show up before 2 p.m. On Wednesday, the line was cut off at roughly 3 p.m.
