(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, and the number one way cyber criminals tap into your personal or business network is with simple but tricky phishing emails.
If you respond or click on links in scam emails, fraudsters can install malware, steal vital information, and even shut down your business with ransomware.
Here are some tips from the BBB:
-Never click on links in emails until you have verified the sender. Fake emails from banks, delivery services, or scammers impersonating friends or co-workers are common.
-Strong passwords are critical and use a variety of passwords for different accounts and never use birthdays or pet names.
