Humboldt Park apartment fire leaves 6 seniors hurt: CFD

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Six elderly residents of an apartment building in Humboldt Park were hospitalized early Friday morning following a fire.

The fire occurred at about 2 a.m. in a three-story building on the 4300 block of West Thomas.

The residents, all in their early to mid-seventies, suffered from smoke inhalation.

The four men and two women were treated at the scene and were taken to hospitals. All but one was described to be in good condition.

A 74-year-old woman was in serious condition.

Four were rescued.  Two got out on their own, the fire department said.

The fire was confined to the basement.

The cause is under investigation.
