Just in time for Bank of America Chicago Marathon weekend, hundreds of workers at several downtown Chicago hotels went on strike on Friday.
Workers at the Palmer House, Millennium Hotel Knickerbocker Chicago, Sheraton Grand Chicago Riverwalk, Waldorf Astoria Chicago, The Westin Chicago River North and The Westin Michigan Avenue Chicago are on strike.
Beatriz Cervantes is a supervisor of cleaning crews at the Palmer House Hilton and was among those walking the picket line along Monroe Street on Friday, and tells WBBM the hotels are not being fair, saying "We're fighting for our rights. They don't want to pay us. They are trying to cut our insurance, our dental, our vision (health coverage.) So we're fighting for our rights. You know we all have families. We all have kids they are going to school, school is not cheap! And then we don't get paid (enough) well how are we supposed to bring them up? A lot of people are losing their houses."
Cleaning crews, front desk agents, servers and bartenders are among those who have walked off the job.
WBBM has reached out to hotel management for comment.
