(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Hundreds of owners of Hyundai vehicles, which have a design flaw that makes it easy for thieves to steal them, can get the problem fixed for free on Friday, Saturday and Sunday outside Guaranteed Rate Field.

There has been a surge in thefts of some Hyundai and Kia models, after videos on social media showed people how to start them by using a screwdriver and a USB plug.

Hyundai has teamed up with Chicago police to set up temporary service bays in a parking lot outside the White Sox’s ballpark. A free software update to fix the problem will be installed.

David VandeLinde, a vice president with Hyunda, said there were long lines at a similar event in St. Louis last weekend for Kia vehicles. He said participants will get a complimentary steering wheel lock as part of the deal.

“Hopefully, they won’t be on property here for more than 30 minutes,” he said.
