CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The Illinois Department of Public Health on Monday reported 4,699 new confirmed and probable COVID-19 cases — the fewest number of daily cases reported since Oct. 27.
An additional 98 people also died from the coronavirus, a day after a 12-day streak of daily deaths exceeding 100 ended on Sunday with 79 reported.
A man in his 30s and two in their 40s were among the 70 individuals who most recently succumbed to the coronavirus in Cook County, according to the IDPH.
The IDPH has reported a total of 905,069 coronavirus cases, including 15,299 deaths.
Over the past 24 hours, 86,454 tests were performed for a total 12,520,979. As of Sunday night, 4,460 people were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 981 patients were in the intensive care unit and 546 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.
The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from Dec. 14 through Dec. 20 is 7.5%. The preliminary seven-day statewide test positivity from Dec. 14 through Dec. 20 is 9.3%.
