CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — State health officials have a new definition of what constitutes a COVID-19 outbreak in schools.
The Illinois Department of Public Health is refining what qualifies as a COVID-19 outbreak in a school.
An outbreak used to mean two cases associated with a school.
Now, the IDPH said it is following recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other health officials to redefine outbreak to mean multiple cases comprising 10% of students, teachers, or staff within a core group or at least three cases in a group of people who were together during an exposure period.
