A new report showing Cook County property taxes have almost tripled in the last 30 years has lawmakers pointing fingers.
Illinois Republicans blame Democrats who control the legislature in Springfield and Governor JB Pritzker.
The governor told reporters on Monday local school boards continue to raise property taxes.
State Rep. Dan Ugaste from Geneva said during a press conference with the Illinois House GOP the Bears stadium proposal shows the legislature can take on the issue when it wants to.
“If we can fix property taxes for a stadium, we can fix it for every other taxpayer in Illinois too,” he said.
House Republican Leader Tony McCombie accuses Democrats of not considering property tax reforms while chronically underfunding schools and giving districts mandates without financial support.
