CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Illegal fireworks displays that have been going on for years at a North Side park are not going to be tolerated this Fourth of July weekend, according to the alderman in that community.
40th Ward Ald. Andre Vasquez said in a newsletter to residents that he’s been receiving complaints from people upset over an increase in the use of fireworks in the Lincoln Square area.
He said the wink and a nod to fireworks displays at Winnemac Park will not be happening this year. The alderman said fencing is going up around the park’s baseball fields. There’ll be police enforcing fireworks laws at the park, and signs are being put up to remind people fireworks aren’t welcome there.
Ald. Vasquez reminded people that the only permitted fireworks in Chicago are Glow Worms, smoke bombs and party poppers. The alderman said he’s also concerned about the impact fireworks have on air quality.
