(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The Pregnancy Expenses Act, or House Bill 2477, would require costs related to a pregnancy — including insurance premiums, delivery, and abortions services — to be evenly split between both parents.
The bill passed the House on a 65-40 vote on Tuesday, and it now heads to the Illinois senate for consideration.
Rep. Margaret Croke (D-Chicago), the bill’s chief sponsor, cited the high costs of pregnancies, even for those with insurance, as a reason it's needed.
Opponents, though, objected to the inclusion of abortion costs.
The law would not apply to sperm donations or surrogates.
