CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A state lawmaker from Batavia is proposing a change in the oath that candidates in Illinois are asked to approve as they run for office.
Democrat Karina Villa, who was recently elected to the Illinois Senate, said the statement in filing papers should include not being a part of any white supremacy or hate groups.
She said bipartisan support for the proposal has grown since last week's Capitol riot in Washington.
Candidates who object to signing might be revealing something about themselves that voters should know, Villa said.
