SCHAUMBURG, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Illinois Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi says he remembers last January 6 as a chaotic and ultimately frightening day whose effects are not over.

Krishnamoorthi, a Democrat from Schaumburg, said he was evacuated twice during the storming of the Capitol building-once because an explosive device was found near his building.

"I remember vividly hold up in an office with dark hallways and emerging nine hours later and going to the vending machine and having chilli cheese fritos for dinner and that's become a comfort food ever since," he told WBBM.

"I also remember us going to 3:42 in the morning to certify the election and then I jumped on the first plane to come back and there was an insurrectionist sitting right next to me on the plan scrolling through her pictures of inside the capitol after she had breached."

He then realized the plane was full of people who’d come to Washington to try to overturn the election, and even now he fears new attempts to undermine fair elections are being planned.

A year after the siege on the Capitol, Democratic Congressman Raja Krishnmoorthi remains concerned that there are still people who have not been arrested or held accountable.

He also said said the nation needs to reform its Democracy.
