CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — For the first time in 50 years, the 22nd district has a new representative in the Illinois House.
Former Speaker Michael Madigan played a large role in electing Edward Guerra Kodatt as his replacement.
Kodatt received 63% of the weighted vote among Democratic Party committee members at a meeting on the Southwest Side.
The 26-year-old is the son of two Chicago police officers and has spent the last several years working for Madigan and 13th ward Alderman Marty Quinn in their constituent services office.
Madigan nominated Kodatt and threw his considerable vote to him, which was 56% of the total based on November election results.
Kodatt was one of several bilingual candidates running for the seat in the majority Latino district.
