Your water bill could be going up.

Illinois American Water filed a proposal with the Illinois Commerce Commission on Tuesday to raise the water bills of average users by $14 a month.

The Citizens Utility Board says the average sewer water bill will go up $28 a month, if regulators approve.

The company told the state the increase would help pay for $577m in system improvements over the next two years, such as replacing 42 miles of aging pipelines and equipment.

Illinois American serves 1.3m customers in 148 communities across the state, including west suburban Lisle.

CUB plans to challenge what it calls a money grab - pointing to profits by Illinois American’s parent company at more than $1b in 2024 and another $873 million last year through September.

If the ICC approves it, the increase would take effect in January of 2027.
