(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A Mount Prospect man was charged in connection with the death of his ex-girlfriend, whose body was found in a forest preserve over the weekend.
Police said 26-year-old Juan Pio Toto admitted he and 23-year-old Atalia Pucheta Martinez had an altercation on Saturday morning in the parking lot of an apartment building.
He said she fell, hit her head, and died.
According to police, he said he put her in the back seat of his car and left her body in the Busse Woods Forest Preserve.
She was reported missing on the same day and the body was later found.
Toto was charged with one felony count of concealment of a death, but he was granted pretrial release. Police said this was because of the Pretrial Fairness Act. Concealment of a death is not a detainable offense.
The 26-year-old is on electronic monitoring.
Police say more charges could be filed, after there’s an official ruling regarding the cause and manner of death.
