The minimum wage in Illinois goes up in the new year. The minimum wage will increase from $12 to $13 an hour starting January 1.
This is on track with the trend of raising the state's minimum wage by $1 each year between 2020 and 2025.
For tipped workers, the rate will increase to $7.80, but employers are required to make up the difference if these workers haven't earned the minimum wage after receiving tips.
In Chicago, the hourly minimum wage is $15.40.For businesses with over 20 employees. It increases every year, according to the Consumer Price Index or 2.5%, whichever is lower.
