Illinois workers who help a lot of us get around are demanding some changes.

“We are treated as disposable even though the entire system depends on us.”

A day before heading to Springfield, hundreds of drivers for Uber and Lyft made their voices heard in Chicago, calling for legislation that would allow rideshare workers to unionize.

“This bill protects drivers and guarantees their right to have a voice. It’s about fairness. It’s about dignity. It’s about respecting the workers who make this industry possible.”

David Crane has worked as a rideshare driver in Chicago for nearly a decade.

“We’re asking for the right to organize, the right to have a voice on the job and the right to bargain collectively over wages, safety and fair treatment.”

Members of the Illinois Drivers Alliance say the bill would not just improve the lives of drivers, but those who rely on rideshare services as well.

“This city has always been where working people draw a line and demand better.”
