MEMPHIS, TENN (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - An Illinois man will serve jail time over a scheme involving stolen checks.

In 2018, federal prosecutors said 44-year-old Joseph Willis, a Danville native living in Tennessee, was involved in a bank fraud scheme. He and others stole and deposited nearly $151,000 in checks from the U.S. Treasury, prosecutors said.

The evidence included security camera footage from Memphis banks showing Willis depositing checks and even fingerprints on several of those checks.

Willis pleaded guilty to bank fraud charges last year and has now been sentenced to a little over two years in prison as well as supervised release.
