(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — For the first time since the pandemic, a gathering of square dance enthusiasts will return to Rosemont for the Illinois Square and Round Dance Convention.
The convention, which will take place at the Sheraton Suites Chicago O'Hare hotel on July 19 – 20, is expected to draw nearly 300 dancers from all over the midwest.
This year, the convention's theme is the retro-futuristic, science-fiction genre of steampunk.
Convention organizers said square dancing and steampunk both draw from past traditions while looking toward the future.
There will be a free introduction to square dancing for the public on July 20 from 3 – 4 p.m.
