CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- An ordinance that would increase paid leave for workers in Chicago has been introduced at a City Council meeting.

Alderman Michael Rodriguez of the 22nd Ward led chants in support of the ordinance that would give a worker one hour of paid time off for every 15 hours worked.

A full-time worker would get three weeks.

"It gives workers that precious little time, time for our families, time for ourselves..for the critics out there, this ordinance makes sense, it really does," said Don Villar, Secretary-Treasurer of the Chicago Federation of Labor.

"It improves morale and improves the workplace culture, and that's good for business. We all know the most productive workplaces are the ones that care for the workers, right?"

If the measure passes, workers could use their paid time off for any reason.
