Some duck hunters in Indiana had to be rescued after their boat froze in a river during this weekend’s winter storm.
The Department of Natural Resources says they received a call for help around 11:30am Saturday for five men stuck in a boat on the White River near Haysville, about 60 miles south of Bloomington.
Conservation Officer Joe Haywood is still trying to figure out exactly what happened but told WBBM “it just looks like they were trying to navigate through a stretch of river that was covered pretty much from bank to bank with ice.”
Complicating matters, while transporting an airboat to the river it froze to the trailer in the snow and 12 degree weather.
Haywood says about three hours after the call, they brought the men to shore where an ambulance was waiting.
They were dressed for the weather so he says no one needed to go to the hospital.
However, the boat remains frozen in the middle of the river.
