(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A judge in Lake County, Indiana has been suspended for harassing court employees.

The Indiana Supreme Court has ordered Lake Superior Judge Calvin Hawkins to be removed from the bench without pay for 30 days after it was determined he sexually harassed staffers around the East Chicago courthouse over his nearly 20-year judicial tenure.

The decision to suspend the judge instead of fire him was made to spare court employees from having to publicly testify about his misconduct.

His suspension begins on March 31.
