CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Chicago Fraternal Order of Police has filed a formal complaint with the city over the use of police stations to house migrants.
John Catanzara, President of the FOP said it’s “inhumane” to put migrants in police station lobbies and it’s basically a middle finger from the city directed at police officers.
Migrants have been staying at two stations, the Central and Ogden Districts. They’ve been sleeping on floors and washing up in bathrooms. They don’t have showers or food.
The Chicago Sun- Times reports that they’ve been relying on the kindness of strangers and officers for food and the city told the department it has to accept the migrants because, in some cases, there’s nowhere else for them to go.
Catanzara said they “should not be camping out indefinitely like a homeless shelter.” The city has been moving them out of the station when space is available at shelters.
