CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Heavy downpours led to flooding on the roads — and inside some buildings — on Chicago’s North Side today.
Ald. Samantha Nugent (39th) said her office started getting calls shortly after 9 a.m.
“A lot of folks have flooded basements, and it came on quite quickly — like, heavy amounts of water in their basements,” Nugent said.
While the calls were from all over her northside ward, she said it appears to be worse in the Mayfair neighborhood with a flooded viaduct near Cicero and Forest Glen.
“We also heard that the 17th Police District had a good amount of flooding, as well,”Nugent said.
The Chicago Police Department said the district closed its lobby to the public because of the flooding but officers are still working at the station.
