(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Green will dominate this weekend’s offerings, but there are other events to enjoy across the Chicago area. WBBM Newsradio’s Rachel Pierson reports.
--You’ll find plenty of St. Patrick’s Day festivities this weekend, including the main parade in downtown Chicago. The big parade steps off at noon from Columbus Drive on Saturday featuring dozens of floats, marching bands and of course, Irish Dancers.
--You can also celebrate with the South Side Irish Parade, which kicks off at noon Sunday at 103rd and Western. This event makes its way through Chicago's most historically Irish neighborhoods.
--If your neighborhood is up north, you can get in the Irish spirit with the Northwest Side Irish Parade. It takes place Sunday at noon on West Raven Street in Norwood Park.
--Come celebrate one of the world’s most iconic St. Patrick’s Day traditions: the dyeing of the Chicago River. Representatives of the Journeymen Plumbers Local Union 130 pour dye into the river, turning the water a bright shade of green. Chicagoans know the earlier you come, the better. The dyeing kicks off at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
--The magical world of Narnia returns with the Evanston Dance Ensemble’s unforgettable production of “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.” Now in its seventh run, the production includes all original choreography and an entirely original score written by Chicago jazz musician Steve Rashid.
--And the United Center plays host to the Big Ten Men’s Basketball Tournament, which wraps up this weekend. It’s the 11th time in the tournament’s 26-year history that it’s being played in Chicago.
