(WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The Illinois Department of Revenue will begin accepting 2022 state individual income tax returns and so will the Internal Revenue Service on the federal side.
State officials are once again encouraging taxpayers to file electronically as early as they can and choose direct deposit to get a refund as soon as possible.
The Illinois Department of Revenue said its electronic management system is better this year and provides immediate confirmation after returns are submitted.
Illinois received nearly 6.2 million individual returns last year. About 90% were filed electronically.
The tax filing deadline is Tuesday, April 18.
A taxpayer can expect a direct deposit refund in about four weeks if they electronically file an error-free return.
