CHICAGO CITY HALL (WBBM Newsradio) - Two aldermen representing Chicago's downtown area are condemning the decision by ICE to send armed, uniformed agents to the Mag Mile and Millennium Park.

Brian Hopkins and Brendan Reilly both represent the part of downtown that became a backdrop for the latest escalation of the Trump Administration's actions targeting Chicago.

"My constituents were deeply disturbed by this -- and in many cases, were frightened by it," said Reilly (42nd Ward) during a Monday morning appearance at City Hall. "Those are not the images we want to see playing out on the streets of Chicago or any other American city. It looks un-American.

"God knows what the tourists and the visitors to the city were feeling when they were seeing these images all weekend long," Reilly continued.

Hopkins (2nd Ward) echoed Reilly's sentiment that the show of force was designed as a photo opportunity to satisfy President Trump, and won't make anyone safer.

"My constituents recognize this as a farce," Hopkins said. "I don't think Chicagoans are fooled by this."

Both men echoed statements from Mayor Johnson and Governor Pritzker -- calling on the Trump Administration to  provide resources to help local law enforcement.
