It's election day! Here's where all the midterm races stand

Today midterm election campaigning stops and voters head to the polls to cast their ballots for open seats across the country. Candidates for governor, senator and representative positions will be waiting to hear if they’ll be winners.

In Illinois, incumbent Democratic Gov. JB Pritzker is challenged by Republican Darren Bailey. Current Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton is running for the seat long held by Democratic Sen. Dick Durbin, who is not running for reelection. Stratton is challenged by Republican Don Tracy.

However, Illinois isn’t where the most contentious races are as polls show Democrats could tip the balance in Congress (the GOP has a majority in both the House and Senate right now) amid economic concerns putting pressure on voters. People across the country are looking at races in battleground states, including Michigan and Kansas in the Midwest and Texas in the South.

“All eyes are on Senate contests in Alaska, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Michigan, Ohio and Texas. House battlegrounds are scattered across the country,” according to the Associated Press.
