Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker revealed Thursday that he plans to run for a third term in a new campaign video.
“We don’t just talk about problems – in Illinois we solve them,” said the Democratic governor in the video, filmed in Chestnut, Ill. He touted several achievements of his administration to date, including: balancing seven budgets, getting nine credit upgrades, raising the minimum wage, capping the price of insulin, banning assault weapons, protecting abortion rights, eliminating the state grocery tax and more.
Republican President Donald Trump also featured heavily in the video. Pritzker compared the successes of his tenure with moves from Trump, including legislation that is expected to add to the national deficit. He’s also recently clashed with the president over Immigration and Customs Enforcement actions.
“I’m not about to stand by and let him tear down all we’re building in Illinois,” Pritzker said in the video. “I’m running for reelection to protect our progress and continue solving the problems we face.”
Pritzker – a billionaire and heir to the Hyatt Hotel chain who worked in private capital before entering politics – was first elected as governor of Illinois in 2018, when he defeated then incumbent Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner, per Ballotpedia. He was reelected in 2022 and his current term ends in 2027, following the 2026 gubernatorial election in Illinois.
