CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Chicago’s only Jewish alderperson was targeted with cardboard signs that were posted to her office on Sunday night, in an act that she called hateful and antisemitic.

Far North Side Ald. Debra Silverstein (50th) made her comments in a statement released on Monday, after her office on Devon Avenue in West Ridge was plastered with flyers relating to the war between Israel and Hamas.

She called the cardboard signage, posted on her office window, an attack on her religious identity and her belief in the right of the Jewish people to self-determination in their ancestral homeland.

The flyers call for a ceasefire and include a death toll in Gaza of 36,000 people. One of the signs reads: “Shame on you Debra.”

The 50th Ward alderperson wrote that this is the same hate that has targeted other Jewish elected officials, both locally and across the nation, and she added that it must stop now.
