(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The lone Jewish member of Chicago's City Council rejected an invitation from Mayor Brandon Johnson to discuss antisemitism.
Ald. Debra Silverstein, 50th, said she hasn't spoken to the mayor in months and calls his offer to attend a Monday roundtable hollow.
In a letter she signed along with State Sen. Sara Feigenholtz, D-Chicago, and Rep. Bob Morgan, D-Deerfield, Silverstein says they have not seen "a modicum of empathy for the Jewish community" from Mayor Johnson.
Silverstein said the mayor's office did not respond to multiple inquiries about who else was invited to the meeting. The head of the ADL Midwest David Goldenberg tweeted that many of the groups invited were fanning the flames of antisemitism; he also declined to attend.
Despite all of this, the alderwoman said she's open to talking with the mayor. She said he has not reached out since casting the tie-breaking vote in support of a ceasefire resolution in January.
WBBM Newsradio has reached out to Mayor Johnson's office for comment.
