EVANSTON (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Three Jewish students are suing Northwestern for breach of contract, claiming the university failed to keep them safe during protests against the war in Gaza.
The 20-page class action suit accuses the university of ignoring its own code of conduct and coddling what it calls “ a dystopic cesspool of hate” on Deering Meadow.
A graduate student who is listed as “John Doe 2” in the class action lawsuit claims a friend walking with him near the encampment was physically harassed by a protester over the weekend. Since then, the suit says he doesn’t feel safe and is contemplating transferring next year.
One of the plaintiffs, a female grad student, claims protesters screamed at her to burn in hell and followed her as she left the area of the encampment, prompting her to avoid areas of campus where she doesn’t feel safe.
The lawsuit claims Northwestern failed to enforce its own rules and capitulated to protesters with an agreement announced by President Michael Schill early this week.
