(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Johnson Administration is working to get a somewhat altered plan to revitalize O'Hare International Airport off the ground with the airlines.
Plans to further expand O'Hare have been in the works for years. Of late, airlines have balked at the rising cost -- $12 billion now versus the $8.5 billion originally projected.
Johnson's office is willing to speed up construction of a Global Terminal in place of Terminal Two, blending international and domestic Flights.
Joe Schwieterman, a public policy professor at DePaul University says, it's a positive move. But he said accommodating the traffic that was using the old terminal will be a challenge – in other words, the devil is in the details.
He said some airlines may shift flights away from O'Hare if the construction becomes problematic, and those flights might not come back.
A top city official says those concerns are being addressed with the airlines.
