JOLIET (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A Joliet minister will be consecrated as a bishop Wednesday night for the Church of God in Christ in Venezuela, but he won’t be able to travel there for the foreseeable future.

The consecration service is being held Wednesday in Memphis, headquarters of the Church of God in Christ. A virtual watch service for the ceremony will be held in Joliet at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Prayer Tower Church of God in Christ, located at 500 Stryker Ave. in Joliet. All are welcome to attend.

Rev. Warren Dorris of Prayer Tower Church of God in Christ, in Joliet, is becoming bishop of Venezuela, but according to the Joliet Herald News, Rev. Dorris will not be able to visit his flock for now, because of the political situation and the government there not issuing visas to non-Venezuelans.

He said that for now, he’ll visit neighboring Colombia this summer and then Venezuela when it opens up. Rev. Dorris told the Joliet Herald News he intends to remain pastor of the Prayer Tower Church of God in Christ in Joliet at the same time.

There are 42 Church of God in Christ churches in Venezuela.

Rev. Dorris said one of his goals is to develop Venezuelan leadership so that the next bishop there will be a Venezuelan.
